Thousands of protesters have gone to the streets in China, demonstrating against the government’s strict COVID policies. The protests are happening in at least 16 major cities, including Beijing and Shanghai. Protesters are calling for Chinese President Xi Jinping to step down and the end of Communist Party rule. Protests of this type are extremely rare in a country where dissention is typically shut down. Global financial markets are reacting negatively to what is happening in China. Commodities, including crude oil, are also trading lower.
