U.S. soybean processing capacity is growing. “We’re seeing it across the traditional Heartland with Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and some in Kansas,” said Scott Gerlt, chief economist, American Soybean Association. “But I’d say the area that’s more new is Nebraska, North Dakota and a little bit more in Minnesota.” Gerlt says there have been 24 announcements for new crush plants or the expansion of existing plants. “There is a risk that not all announcements will come to fruition.”
