Foreign investment can be a great money infusion into a local economy, but South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson says when it comes to China, we need to be cautious. “My interest in foreign investment gets pretty scarce in a hurry when you talk about America’s adversaries. The reality is China’s communist party is not a friend of the nation. They have strategically in recent years tried to get more control over food supply chains.” Johnson says the Chinese Communist Party has had good success in buying land and businesses. “Chinese holdings in foreign farmland has increased 1,000 percent in the last two years. They own 1,300 ag processing facilities in the U.S. worth about $35 billion. The time to close the barn door is before the cattle are out.”
