Julia Carlson from Murdock, Minnesota is part of the Dublin Victory 4-H Club in Swift County and KMS FFA Chapter. In 4-H, Carlson shows beef cattle along with other general exhibits. “When I was younger, my dad made a rule we could have livestock, but we also had to have one project in the other building. Normally for me, that was either flowers, gardening or photography.” The Swift County fair is coming up and Carlson is looking forward to showing. “Every year my favorite part is the beef show.” When it comes to showing livestock, especially cattle, you must have grit. “Things don’t always go as planned. You have to have grit, especially with livestock. You can’t just give up with something, once you’re in, you have to do it. You have to be prepared and stay ahead of the game to plan out your summer. It’s not just something where you can be like ‘oh, I’m gonna do this’, and then two day before the fair you’re gonna do it. It’s something you have to take to heart and work hard at it.” Hear the story.
