Rabobank Research Executive Director and Senior Protein Analyst Christine McCracken says the possibility of new soy crush facilities being built in the U.S. will change the feed dynamic for livestock production. It’s not clear how livestock production will expand in the areas that have new soy crush facilities. McCracken says many factors contribute to that decision. “Whether or not it’s a good place to grow hogs and where the packing plants are. We don’t have a lot of incremental slaughter capacity at the moment to be able to expand production.” There’s been discussion about a potential pork processing plant in South Dakota, but “that’s on hold for now.”
