In addition to checking out new equipment and technology, Farmfest is known for policy discussions. National Farmers Union President Rob Larew said farm bills are too often written based on what is happening with commodity prices at the time. “That’s really the wrong to approach a farm bill like this,” said Larew. “Let’s make sure we have a farm bill that works and will be there not only when prices are strong.” The farm economy has seen numerous disruptions in recent years, including COVID, a war and inflation. Larew emphasized the need for a safety net that is built into the farm bill to handle this type of change.
