Due to a lack of resources, Ukrainian farmers planted significantly less corn this year. At the same time, spring wheat seedings inceased significantly. Roman Grynyshyn estimates winter crops, such as winter wheat and canola, will be only 15-to-20 percent of a normal year. “These are the steps that are bringing the world to the food crisis that Russia is creating and experts are predicting,” said Grynyshyn. “This year will not be the worst, it will be next year.” Grynyshyn has spent the last three months in the United States, including time in the Red River Valley, to advocate for farmers in his homeland. His ‘World to Rebuild Rural Ukraine’ program is raising money to help farmers rebuild from the ongoing war with Russia.
