Weed pressure is stronger than expected in northeastern North Dakota. “Due the wet conditions, everything is growing,” says Mark Huso, owner, Huso Crop Consulting. “We’ve had a few hiccups. Weeds were missed with pre-emergence herbicides, but in general, we are able to mix most of those in post-emergence applications.” Canada thistle, dandelions, wild oats and pigeon grass are at the top of Huso’s list of weeds for farmers to manage. Product availability remains a challenge for farmers with last minute acreage switches. “I’m concerned about the availability of Express for sunflowers and 2,4-D mixing with wheat post-emergence application. There is also a concern about a few grass products like Everest. I think the Liberty situation has somewhat fixed itself, but that product may be tight,” says Huso. “Retailers are planning as best they can so farmers need to be working with crop consultants on plans A, B and C.”
