After two years of rising net farm income, farm profitability is expected to decline in 2022. Much of that drop can be attributed to a significant falloff in government payments. A report from American Farm Bureau Market Intelligence says USDA pandemic assistance will decline 56 percent from 2021-to-2022. Payments from WHIP+ and Quality Loss Adjustment programs are expected to remain steady, but the Market Facilitation Program payments have gone away.
