The University of Minnesota Extension will host a series of Nitrogen Smart Trainings in February. Extension Educator in Water Resources Brad Carlson says these events will be in person across Minnesota. “We’ll be in Elbow Lake on March 22 at the Grant County office building. We’ll be in Mahnomen on March 23 at the Shooting Star Casino. There’s no cost to attend and we require no pre-registration needed.” Carlson says four of five attendees have made management changes after attending these workshops. “If you think about the Red River draining into Lake Winnipeg, I was on a web conference in the last few weeks and they were talking about issues related to water quality. It’s fallen under the radar, but there’s going to be more attention paid to that in the next few years. Farmers in the Red River Valley need to pay attention to these issues.”
