Another value-added opportunity being considered is a corn wet mill in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Wet milling is commonly used in the food industry to break down corn kernels. A Chinese company called the Fufeng Group Ltd. would own the proposed plant, expected to be in place by 2024 or 2025. Grand Forks Economic Development Corporation President Keith Lund says a development agreement is in the works and infrastructure is important for the project. “Their site selection requires certain infrastructure needs like natural gas, water and transportation infrastructure.” Once built, this wet mill would be located north of JR Simplot. North Dakota Corn Growers Association Executive Director Brenda Elmer says there’s excitement from local corn growers about the possibility of this new corn wet mill. “Anything that can expand the corn market in the Northern Plains is good for growers.” Photo: Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation
