Demand for U.S. beef and pork remains strong and, in some cases, is record large. However, U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Halstrom says supply chain issues continue to be an issue. “It’s getting to a critical level right now, but the good news is the industry is an increase in awareness and is trying to get this figured out.” Halstrom says vessels are backed up and there’s a shortage of containers. “Now that we’re focused on that, we’re seeing small wins: expanded service hours at key ports or waivers and over the road waivers on weight limits. Small things like this can help us with the backlog.”
