WinField United Regional Agronomist Kyle Okke says demand for Enlist soybeans and Xtend Flex soybeans put extra pressure on product availability. “Glufosinate is an active ingredient in extreme tight supply,” says Okke. “Everyone that sells it in retail has already been making orders to serve farmers the best they can. Now, it’s what gets delivered and how much.” Farmers are considering a backup plan for glufosinate and glyphosate. ” I think it would be ill-advised to cut glyphosate out completely, because we’re realizing there’s more than grass we’re getting with the herbicide. A Plan B is to make sure farmers run pre-emergence herbicides to make sure weeds are easier to kill.” Many winter trainings will be spent talking through conventional chemistries and helping farmers work through Plan B options. “It will be an interesting season next year.”
