A Grant County North Dakota FFA member is a finalist for the American Star Farmer award. Carson, North Dakota farmer Kurt Muggli farms 1,800 acres of wheat, soybeans and sunflowers. “My dad gave my brother and I a couple of pieces of ground. He wanted me to figure out if this was something I wanted to do before I got out of high school,” said Muggli. “I rented more land and it has been growing since then.” In the next few years, Muggli would like to focus on improving crop yields and purchase his own farmland. “In a normal job, you’re doing the same thing every day. In one minute here, I could be fixing a truck and the next minute I’m out combining, marketing grain or buying inputs. The whole thing is a fun experience.” Muggli will travel to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this week. The American FFA Star Farmer award winner will be announced Friday.
