More than 80 agriculture groups filed formal objections to the EPA’s rule to revoke all tolerances of chlorpyrifos. By objecting to these changes, the EPA Administrator must respond. “At a moment’s notice, it seems like EPA wants to pull the plug on the tools we have in our toolbox,” said Dan Younggren, president, American Sugarbeet Growers Association. “Chlorpyrifos is widely used in the sugarbeet industry to address the root maggot. If they take that way from us, it could devastate our sugarbeet crop up to 45 percent. That’s a hit no one can take.”
