When it comes to selecting the right acreage mix, Ever.Ag market analyst Mike North says it can be easy to lose sight of price. “We’re still staring at $12 soybeans, $5 corn and looking at $9.50 spring wheat and $7.50 winter wheat. At the end of the day, price is the one thing that really matters on the farm. As you’re evaluating the cost of production, it’s incredibly important to dial in on what the cost will be and then, looking at these prices fairly and acting on them. Then, don’t get complacent,” says North. “Even if you’re looking at a price that’s less than your potential costs. If you plan on growing that crop, you need to defend that price.”
