A soy crush facility being considered in the Casselton, North Dakota area. North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says adding another soybean processor in the state would improve basis for local farmers. “North Dakota always has a dramatic, negative basis. We tend to take it pretty hard, compared to the rest of the soybean growing states. This will help improve basis by 20 to 30 cents. With another soy processing facility going in at Spiritwood, I think the two would compliment each other. It may strengthen basis more. I’m not sure if we’d ever get to zero, but it would be nice.” Goehring says soybean meal is a great by-product of crush facilities. “It will support the poultry, dairy and pork industries. We don’t have a lot of those facilities in the state. Maybe it would prop some of them up.”
