Around 100 volunteers helped a Kittson County, Minnesota farm family with sugarbeet harvest this week, harvesting 540 acres of sugarbeets on Monday and Tuesday. Hallock farmer Dan Younggren organized the event. “We had 60 trucks and several sugarbeet lifters. The rotobeeters took care of the sugarbeet tops on Sunday and that allowed us to get to work on Monday,” said Younggren. “American Crystal Sugar Company was gracious enough to open up the Humboldt piling station for us. It’s a really good thing that’s going on. At the end of the harvest, there will be a BBQ lunch.” Lancaster, Minnesota farmer Paul Olsonawski passed away in a tragic accident in July. “If you didn’t know Paul, you’d think he was rough around the edges, but getting to know him, he was a great guy. We’re glad to come help out with harvest.” Photo credit: Dan Younggren
