A federal appeals panel has unanimously denied an attempt by the National Pork Producers Council and the American Farm Bureau Federation to strike down California’s Proposition 12 as unconstitutional. Proposition 12 bans certain animal housing standards with ramifications that go far beyond any state border. Activist groups, including the Humane Society of the United States and Farm Sanctuary intervened in this case. The NPPC argued Prop 12 will drive up the costs for pork producers and consumers.
