University of Minnesota Extension’s Northwest Research and Outreach Center is looking at the impact field drainage has on nitrogen and phosphorus management. Nutrient and Water Management Specialist Lindsay Pease has a chance to study the impact from initial tile installation. “We are looking at how new drainage installation at the research center will impact our crops and how the nutrients are circulating in the field. Then, how does this impact nitrogen.” Pease is able to track any changes in soil structure and nutrient management from the beginning. “With last year being wet and this year being dry, it’s going to give us two different years. Overall, this gives us a good look at the system.”
