Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is asking Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack for emergency haying and grazing on eligible CRP acres. In an interview with the Red River Farm Network, Walz said the drought is a serious issue for livestock producers. “We have to prepare for the worst-case scenario; this could be a 2012; this could be 1988 or it could be worse.” Natural disasters, like a flood or tornado, happen quickly, but Walz said drought plays out very slowly. Walz has convened the state drought task force. This hasn’t happened since 2012.
