Nationwide, milk production increased 4.6 percent in May. South Dakota had the biggest increase, up 14.6 percent. That was helped by a year-over-year increase in the state’s dairy herd by 19,000 head. Minnesota milk production rose six percent. Minnesota dairy farmers also responded to higher milk prices, increasing dairy cow numbers by 19,000 head.
