Up-and-coming leaders for the pork industry participated in the Pork Leadership Institute in Des Moines this past week. Annie Lerner is a swine nutritionist from Sleepy Eye, Minnesota who was part of the training. Lerner says there are a few key policy issues that need attention. “We have a labor shortage that is challenging because we can’t get enough domestic workers to help us raise our animals; we also want to increase international trade opportunities and keep diseases that are impacting other nations from coming into the U.S.”
