Farmers who seeded a cover crop this spring are eligible for premium support of $5 per acre. The Pandemic Cover Crop Program is being offered by the Risk Management Agency. To receive this benefit, RMA Regional Director Pamela Stahlke says the cover crop acreage must be reported to the Farm Service Agency by Tuesday. “This doesn’t change their acreage reporting date for all the rest of their crops from July 15.” The premium support will be taken off of the crop insurance statement during the billing cycle in August. “That’s why they need to report (cover crop acreage) by June 15 so we can do the behind-the-scenes work at USDA and with the approved insurance providers.”
