The Office of Inspector General says EPA intentionally mishandled the 2018 approval of three dicamba herbicides. NDSU Extension Pesticide Program Specialist Andrew Thostenson has never seen a report like this on pesticide registration. “I’m a bit taken back. I knew it was happening, the OIG opened up the probe last year, but they don’t publish when they’ll complete the report.” Thostenson does not think this will have implications on the current spray season, but things can happen. “We don’t know what speed the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will act on this or if they’ll act. How will environmental advocates use this to advance arguments in front of the Ninth Circuit Court? How will EPA respond?” This is a bigger than dicamba. “I think this calls into questions a lot of decisions EPA makes.” Hear the story.
