U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai is acting on the demands of the dairy industry and challenging Canada’s trade policy. Canada is restricting market access for U.S. dairy products and an official dispute settlement panel will determine if that is a violation of its trade obligations under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The Canadian trade minister responded, saying Canada will “vigorously” defend its position.
