Today, Governor Walz, Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and House Speaker Melissa Hortman announced a bipartisan budget agreement. The much-anticipated global agreement is coming on the day the state legislature is scheduled to end. A special session will still be needed to get work done. Minnesota Representative Paul Anderson says a special session will already happen in June, because the governor renewed emergency powers. “I expect the session could happen mid-June. It is not clear how much time we’ll need to get the work done. There’s many budget bills that need to be worked on, debated and passed. There can be no amendments when bills come back out of the conference committee, that could speed up the process, but hopefully, lawmakers can get the work done in a few days in June.”
