Citizens LLC Vice President of Grain Angie Setzer is encouraging farmers to think about where they stand on profitability and pay attention to the unsold crop. “We tend to get bogged down in these types of market structures focusing on the mistakes we made by selling a portion of our crop lower than where it’s at now. Farmers should be focused on what’s not priced when it comes to making marketing decisions.” Setzer says crop marketing is a tale of two cities. “Some customers were aggressive at the beginning because they’d booked input costs and felt good booking profitability. Others are well behind where they’d normally be this time of the year, watching. It’s probably the most amazing market structure I’ve traded into and I’ve been doing this 16 years.”
