Minnesota is starting to lift COVID restrictions, but this doesn’t mean Governor Tim Walz will give up his emergency powers yet. “We still need to vaccinate a lot of people, we’re not done with COVID yet. Some of the emergency powers are required to get reimbursements from the federal government around some of the things they give to support this,” said Walz. “I’ll ask the Legislature to renew that again.” Walz said he plans to giving up those emergency powers in “the near future.” Republican lawmakers argue Minnesota is beyond a COVID emergency and making the Legislature an equal branch going forward will be important.
