African Swine Fever remains an ongoing problem in China. National Pork Producers Council CEO Neil Dierks says it’s hard to know the full extent of the issue. “One industry advisor says they don’t believe anything that’s published, they just watch the prices. What has many people concerned is the role of information is similar to what was stated publicly a year-and-a-half ago. Things were under control and going well. Look, the price of pork in China is declining. The last time we saw that happening was when there was a massive outbreak.” Dierks says China may have a long way to go before ASF is under control. “One has to be curious. Before this event, China produced five times more pork than the U.S.”
