Farm Service Agency Administrator Zach Ducheneaux’s been with the USDA for six weeks, working remotely from South Dakota and getting familiar with programs. “Things are going really fast, but I love the job.” Ducheneaux says there’s opportunity for more equitable treatment at FSA for livestock producers in the farm safety net and disaster programs. “With proper input from stakeholders, I think we may be able to craft better solutions.” Ducheneaux is also a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, a portion of South Dakota in extreme drought. There are things farmers can do to prepare for the impacts of dryness. Producers should check in with their local FSA office for details.
