An early planting season is anticipated this year. DEKALB Asgrow Technical Agronomist Andrew Penny is advising farmers to focus on the varieties that can tolerate early planting. Planting depth is also a consideration. “Check that soil profile and the moisture in each individual field. If they feel like it is light, fluffy and dry, you may need to be planting a little deeper.” Penny is based in Ames, Iowa and expects to see an increase in soybean acres. “Specifically, in Iowa, we were hit with the Derecho and more guys are looking at rotating to soybeans to manage volunteer corn or rootworm.”
