SRD 901, a resolution of disapproval for the merging of the South Dakota Ag and Natural Resources Departments, will be considered in the South Dakota Senate as soon as Monday. The Senate Agriculture Committee heard the resolution on Thursday and committee members were divided. State Senator Julie Frye-Mueller said it’s too big of an issue for one committee. “There’s 35 of us representing different people in our state and they all have an opinion. I’ve received numerous e-mails saying do not support this merger and a couple e-mails say to support it, but the decision I’ve made is to let the entire Senate vote on this.” South Dakota Farmers Union testified in favor of the resolution. South Dakota Farm Bureau testified in opposition. It is unknown when the full Senate will vote on the resolution.
