Farmers will need to select either the Agricultural Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage farm program for 2021 by mid-March. Agricultural Economic Insights Economist David Widmar says there are several considerations to keep in mind when choosing a farm program. “There are lots of good decision-making tools out there. We didn’t try to replicate those, but tried to step back and ask what are six big scenes going to impact those specific outputs.” The goal is to help producers come to a decision to fit their operation. “Farmers should ask themselves three questions: what do I know, what are my expectations about the future and what are my primary concerns? While there isn’t an obvious solution or answer, producers can begin to zero in on a decision that works best for them.”
