The Senate Agriculture Committee will hear from Ag Secretary Nominee Tom Vilsack on Tuesday. In an interview with the Red River Farm Network, Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member John Boozman said the committee is eager to get Vilsack’s confirmation through quickly. “We haven’t formed committees yet, but we’ve made agreements and because of that, we’ll forge forward.” Boozman wants to hear more about COVID-19. “It showed how fragile the ag supply chain was.” Lawmakers also want to know how the Biden administration plans to access the Commodity Credit Corporation. “I think there will be questions on CCC use, especially for carbon credits,” said Boozman. “I’m in favor of looking into how we can pay farmers and ranchers for the practices they do now and incentivize them for additional things, but I’m concerned this remains voluntary.”
