The biofuels industry has mixed feelings following the EPA’s action on the Renewable Fuel Standard. “I think on E15 we’re pleased to see the EPA is following through proposing to remove what we see as an onerous label. Also, helping to ease some of the compatibility requirements for E15 infrastructure,” said Chris Bliley, vice president of regulatory affairs, Growth Energy. “We’ll continue to see if there are other things that can be done as the EPA finalizes the rule. On the RFS, that action is certainly disappointing, but we’ll use the comment period to push back.” Bliley said the incoming Biden administration can do a few things to help the biofuels industry. “On the RFS, they can move to limit small refinery exemptions in-line with the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals decision and reject the outlandish waiver requests and return to a more predictable schedule for Renewable Volume Obligations.”
