The South Dakota Farm Bureau is supportive of the proposal for a merged South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. SDFB Vice President Jeff Gatzke participated in last week’s agriculture call with Governor Kristi Noem. “She said this was good for South Dakota agriculture. It was very well received and I can’t think of anyone on that phone call after listening to her that was against it.” Gatzke operates a feedlot. When it comes to regulations, Gatzke likes the idea of working with one very ag-oriented department. “Instead of going to both departments, we’ll have agriculture people working in the regulatory department. You won’t have to make two separate phone calls. Within our small state, I think it will work good, especially for people dealing with irrigation, feedlots and water.”
