Beef packer margins declined 33 percent last week. Even with that drop, packers made a profit of $332 per head. That’s according to the latest Sterling Beef Profit Tracker. Packer margins are thought to have slipped due to a $20 per hundredweight decline in beef cutouts, which averaged $217.
