U.S. Dairy Export Council CEO Tom Vilsack made his first public comments Friday after being named the Biden-administration’s agriculture secretary nominee. One of the top priorities, if Vilsack is confirmed, will be “rooting out inequities and systemic racism in the agency’s programs.” The COVID-19 response is also top-of-mind. “Reviving rural communities, addressing dire food shortages and getting workers and producers the relief they need to come back stronger.” Vilsack also sees an opportunity to position American agriculture as a leader in combating climate change.” Vilsack will stay at USDEC until he is confirmed by the new Congress. Following confirmation, USDEC Chief Operating Officer Krysta Harden will take over as CEO.
