Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative’s sugar processing campaign will be shorter than usual this year. The co-op harvested about 2.4 million tons of sugarbeets with the crop averaging 24.1 tons with a 16.9 percent sugar content. “We would like to have had another 400,000 tons to process. This would normally get us into the latter part of May. We’re probably going to be in the mid-to-latter part of April, one month shorter,” said Pat Freese, chair, Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative board. “It’s good to get work done, but at the same time, you also lose the revenue you could gain from the month of processing.”
