According to IntelliFARM President Brian Voth, the increase in the Statistics Canada wheat numbers are being driven by winter wheat and durum. “It looks like a big number, but when you break it down, most of it is coming out of durum and winter wheat. Durum production is up to 6.57 million tons, higher than one year ago. That’s due to a return to much better durum yields. Winter wheat was higher than last year.” The spring wheat number was down from one year ago. Canola production was also below last year’s production. “This was based on lower canola yields.”
