Kansas Senator Pat Roberts has chaired his final Senate Agriculture Committee hearing. Before the testimony on agricultural research, Roberts was able to reflect on his time as chairman. “Six years ago, I made it a priority that this committee would provide a platform for American farmers, ranchers, small businesses, rural communities, school children and the hungry,” said Roberts. “Over 80 hearings and meetings later, I believe our committee has done exactly that.” Roberts, who did not seek reelection, is the only person to have chaired both the House and Senate agriculture committees. Arkansas Senator John Boozman is expected to take over as chair during the next session of Congress.
