At the the end of the year, Congress will be losing three of four agriculture committee leaders. One of those will be House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Mike Conaway. During his time on the House Agriculture Committee, including at least four years as chairman, Conaway is most proud of putting together the 2018 Farm Bill and reinstating crop insurance. “It’s been a real joy, honor and privilege to lead the fight. When you’re in a leadership role, the interest of the entire country should be at the forefront of your mind.” The new ranking member for the committee will be Glenn “GT” Thompson from Pennsylvania. Conaway has confidence in GT’s ability to represent rural America, especially production agriculture. “GT brings a heart for the SNAP program and issues associated with that. I’m hopeful he’ll be a chair in 2023 so he’ll be the guy writing the next farm bill.” Hear the full interview.
