NDFB met in Bismarck on Friday for their annual meeting. President Daryl Lies says the day-long event focused on a variety of policies including private property rights. “We’re always finding new things that need to be changed including the open fields doctrine in North Dakota. It doesn’t protect barns from a search warrant. This is an issue when it comes to livestock production with anonymous claims of animal neglect and abuse. That’s a new direction and priority from members this year.” Lies says packer issues are also top-of-mind for members. “Members spent a lot of time discussing and debating ways to address market access concerns and where the competition is from those folks who purchase products from farmers and ranchers.” These priorities will be a focus for NDFB as the North Dakota Legislature meets in 2021. North Dakota Senators Kevin Cramer and John Hoeven also attended the event.
