The Minnesota Agriculture Water Resources Board Center’s virtual field day highlighted research from the past year. Board member Jared Nordick says the research being done has been a great learning tool for his farm in Wilkin County. “They came up and put a bunch of monitoring equipment on my tile pump right after a new install. In the first year, we’ve seen some great data. As conservationists, it has paid dividends. If we would have been overapplying I think we would have seen some influx.” There is no one-size-fits-all conservation program and Nordick says being part of the Discovery Farm program has provided valuable insight. “We started this farm in fall 2013 with a freshly tiled field. It ran until 2018. We hadn’t seen much change. If you’ve been a good steward of the land, I guess it goes to show the checks and balances are still working.”
