Stockmen’s Livestock Exchange owner Larry Schnell expects calf prices this fall to be in line with last year. “To start, I think we will be $5-to-$7 per hundredweight under a year ago. The finished cattle that were supposed to be processed earlier when COVID came upon us, they’re talking like they will be done by November 1. We’re hoping that between now and the first of the year that we’ll see a price increase on these calves. That should happen because there should be empty pens after those finished cattle are gone.” Schnell says the bigger calf runs will likely begin this week.
