More than 10 million acres of corn and soybean ground in Iowa were damaged by the derecho in early August. Farmers are saying it is taking twice the work for half of the normal yield. “What’s unreal with this derecho is just how widespread it is,” said Ryan Van Roekel, agronomist, Pioneer. “Nobody is cherry-picking their pictures. It is like that for hundreds of miles. It’s mind blowing to me on how widespread it can be.”
