Farmer sentiment hit a high in September. The latest Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer increased to a reading of 156, an increase of 12 points from August. The combination of the August crop price rally and USDA’s unveiling of the second Coronavirus Food Assistance Program fueled most of the optimism. There is, however, a decline in producer’s perspectives on U.S. ag export prospects. Fifty-eight percent of farmer survey participants expect exports to remain about the same in the future, rather than increase. Less than half of survey respondents expect China to fulfill its ag import commitment in the phase one trade deal.
