Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joined the Minnesota Farm Bureau Shop Talk webinar on Thursday and answered questions on the COVID-19 pandemic, including the use of emergency powers. “I want our businesses open, I also want our kids back in school and I want this done safely,” said Walz. “If the Legislature is willing to take over some of these responsibilities and do it, they need to show they can do it. No one anticipated a 100 year health event that would continue beyond 30 days. Rural areas may not have high infection rates, but the impact is dramatic once they start to spike up.” Walz also addressed the status of Section 179 conformity. “Full implementation was in my budget and it wasn’t accepted in 2019 so we put it forward again in 2020. I think it will be a difficult sell now, because of where the budget situation is at, but I think Section 179 is the right policy.”
