Waterhemp continues to be a significant issue for North Dakota farmers. According to Centrol Crop Consulting agronomist Lee Breise, the weather hasn’t helped much. “Waterhemp is exploding in fields fast. We have high populations in some fields where we never thought we’d see waterhemp.” Breise says farmers are now beyond using herbicides for weed management. “For managing these weeds going forward, farmers need good crop rotation.” Farmers are also struggling to manage weeds in prevent plant fields due to the windy, hot and muddy conditions.
